Qahera, Comic Strip

I have mixed feelings about this comic series.

It addresses issues of contemporary Arab society and Islam, and it correctly distinguishes between proper Islamic teaching and patriarchal misogyny without messing with religion doctrine or wrongfully criticizing it for the sake of “diversity” or something progressive (that’s a whole post on it’s own).

I really liked how the main character stuck to her roots and remained true to her tradition and practices and at the same time kicked ass. That being said not all the comic strips were that great. Some lacked substance, some were confusing, and with some the author couldn’t convey her idea properly.

But overall a good comic.
